Showcasing Punjab At COP-28

Wednesday, December 6, 2023
CM Punjab Syed Mohsin Naqvi said that we are emphasising the significance of this platform in addressing Pakistan's climate challenges, particularly those exacerbated by neighbouring countries, notably India. Urgent action is imperative for a sustainable future. We must foster international cooperation, share solutions, and commit to mitigating climate impacts. Together, we can shape a resilient and eco-friendly world for generations to come.
While CS Punjab Mr. Zahid Akhtar Zaman said changing weather patterns affect cropping patterns as Punjab is the food basket of Pakistan, this is concerning.
Moreover, Chairman P&D Board, Mr. Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, said that the biggest challenge we face is to overcome the climate change. We are making investments in climate change infrastructure, mitigating adaptation, and switching to renewable energy sources.
Additionally, Secretary Agriculture, Mr. Nadir Chattha, said that although burning crop residue is practical for farmers, it contributes significantly to air pollution. 60% of the world's glaciers will disappear by the end of this century due to rapid glacier melting.
A documentary about the vulnerabilities caused by climate change in Punjab and the government response to address them was also screened to the attendees.
